Our story

How it happened

Veetality was founded in 2025 by poultry farmhands.

The farmhand reads the newspaper with a worried look in front of the laying-hen house, a hen reads along

2023 · The legal challenge

The legal challenge by MOB, a Dutch environmental organisation. A farm had done everything its permit required, but the emission factors behind its housing system turned out to be unreliable. There was not a single figure on the table about that barn itself. In 2025 the court ruled in MOB's favour.

At the time we worked as farmhands and asked ourselves what we could give the sector.

The farmhand kneels at the end wall of the aviary, where the manure belts under the tiers run over a roller onto the cross conveyor, and writes in a notebook

The first question

We started with the manure belt. How often does it need to run so that as little ammonia as possible forms? That differs per barn.

The farmhand turns his empty pockets inside out, a feather drifts out

Running the numbers

We soon understood that emission reduction has no business model behind it to keep a healthy company going.

The farmhand does his round with a bucket along the aisle between the open aviary rows, one hen stands still on her own

The turn

So we turned to lower mortality from disease. You do your round and see nothing unusual. A few days later the culling crew is on your farm.

Looking back, something was wrong earlier, just not visible to the naked eye.

A Kestrel hangs from the roof truss above the aisle between the aviary rows, the farmhand looks up contentedly

A Kestrel above the flock

That is why a Kestrel hangs above the flock. It keeps watching, even when you are not there.

The same Kestrel hangs above the aisle by the aviary row, the farmhand points at the manure belt under the bottom tier

Back to the manure belt

With the same hardware we later come back to the manure belt. Then emissions can still come down.

The farmhand lays a brick foundation with a small cabinet in it, a hen inspects

The foundation

We took our time with the foundation. Then we saw what we are actually building: a decentralised data infrastructure. It stands on each farm separately and the data stays in the barn.

The farmhand leans on the gate and looks at the horizon with a pig barn, cows, a crane and a port

Further

An infrastructure like that also works outside poultry farming. That is why we look further.

Poultry is the beginning.

Where we are today

A working prototype, not yet a product

We are preparing the first installation at PEC, the Poultry Expertise Centre in Barneveld. The first hard go/no-go comes with the validation of the on-farm test. For nitrogen we expect a process of several years.
